In 2016 California Legislature updated the definition for what is called Mold. Per the Senate Bill 655 mold is defined as ‘microorganisms or fungi’. This is important since fungi, being the other word for mold, is also referring to all living matter at the microscopic level which includes dangerous bacteria.
These dangerous bacteria produce what are called endotoxins which are toxic and potentially fatal. This can affect a person within hours of it growing and being exposed to it without the person’s knowledge.
This happens due to damp/wet conditions in the home. This is a primary reason why it is important to address any known leaks quickly and do regular maintenance.
