Over the years I have been called out several times to do an inspection after another company had recently performed one and the client or owner was not satisfied. I am given the report from the previous company and even look that company up on the web to see their credentials. I then tell the client, now my client, what that company did or did not do correctly.
I recently did an inspection for a client who had 2 other companies perform an inspection but got seemingly conflicting results. They were appreciative that I was able to provide them with much more information about their situation with their home and how to deal with it.
It is important to keep in mind that not all companies that claim to do inspections or claim to correct your situation are ‘created equal’ and don’t all go by industry standards or protocol. There are also ‘scams’ of various sorts that will lead people to believe they have an extensive mold problem and charge a high amount of money to fix it. Especially in these cases a 2nd opinion is warranted by a Properly Credentialed Professional.
I always recommend to hire a Certified Microbial Consultant (CMC) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) as these are the 2 best credentials to perform these evaluations. As I have mentioned before the CMC specializes in mold/microbial growth evaluations and the CIH does this as part of the whole field of Occupational Health and Safety they deal with.
In one case I advised the customer to try and get their money back for the ‘inspection’ that was performed since industry standards were not followed and the evaluation was bogus. This she successfully did.
